12. Call Bell Systems

Many facilities have call bell systems that work in different ways. These include:

  • Nurse Call Bells – It will activate a blinking light outside the resident’s room or at the nurse’s station when a call has been received by a resident. Some larger facilities will also have a light in the hallway that will start to flash showing which zone the room of the resident is located. For each personal care attendant, pager systems are often used which can warn workers that a resident needs assistance.
  • Roam Alerts –.For wandering people, these systems help promote a healthy atmosphere. When the resident enters an exit, a go-off alarm locks the door and keeps it locked until a staff member who inputs a code into a keyboard clears the alarm. This warning also appears on the computer screen to detect the resident trying to leave.
